Aiden - Bethany Beach 2

Throughout the time at Bethany Beach you got braver and braver.

The first day you spent most of your time in the tent playing in and around your little pool. As the days progressed you played with the sand more and eventually crawled around in the sand. At first you weren't real sure of the sand and so you would crawl a little bit and then take a break. By the last day you seemed more comfortable with the way the sand felt and you would just keep crawling. We would follow you around making sure you didn't put any sand in your mouth. We weren't always successful. Sometimes you would try and crawl all the way down to the water but we we would stop you before you got there.

Each day we took you down to the water and hung on to you. The first day we would bold you tight while we put your feet in. You picked up both feet and clung tight to whoever was holding you. By the second day we gave you a little more independence and would just hold onto your hands while you were standing on your feet. Your picked up both feet because it was cold and you were surprised. You cried a little so we picked you up and held you tight. Soon we put you down again and you were only picking up one foot. As you got braver you would stand there for longer and eventually just held on with one hand. You sometimes tried to reach down and touch the waves. The waves would sometimes come up to your ankles and other times almost your waist. When it came in really high we would pick you up and you would smile. When you got brave enough you even sat in the water. The water would then come up to you and get you all wet. On the last day you sat in a hole that Amelia, Isa, and Uncle Steven dug. You were splashing and playing while Amelia and Isa were jumping in and out of the whole. It was clear, that even though you only liked to be in the water for a few minutes, you loved the water.

When you weren't crawling in the sand or standing in the water you were doing a variety of other things. Sometimes you would play in your tent. We bought it for you so that you would have some shade and it worked. The first few days you stayed in it most of the time. You played in the pool, crawling in and out of it or splashing in the water. You had a few toys in there that you loved to play with. Sometimes you would sit right on the edge and play in the sand. We gave you some shells to play with and you would burry them in the sand. We would sprinkle the sand on your feet or burry them in the sand. You thought it was pretty funny and would smile and laugh a little. When you got a little fussy we would take you out of the tent and either feed you or take you for a walk down by the water. Feeding you was a little difficult because there was sand all over, especially on your hands. We gave you pretzels and chips but the thing you loved best were the applesauces that we gave you. We also got you some baby food that you could suck on and squeeze to make the food come out. Most of the time you did pretty well with it, but sometimes it would squeeze out all over you. When we took you for a walk by the water you would calm down and snuggle with whoever was holding you. The last three days at the beach you even took a nap. One time you even fell asleep in a chair after eating. You had a towel wrapped around you and a few toys in your hands. It was pretty cute. Other times you slept on your tent, all sprawled out.

When we weren't at the beach we were playing at the house. Your favorite place to play was on the back porch. Most of the toys were out there including a tractor, part of a plastic tree, and a push button toy. Your favorite thing to play with were blue headbands that went with the headband game. You played with them for a long time, chewing on them or putting them on your head or around your neck. When you got it around your neck you would smile like you were so proud. The small pool was also on the back porch and you would climb in and out of that even though there wasn't any water in it. You played bubbles with Nata and ball with Zoe and Isa. When we were both inside and outside you played with Lysander. You followed him around and would sometimes chase him. You and Lysander were good at sharing and not getting into trouble together.

When it was time for bed, you were a different story. You didn't want to go to sleep. You would stay awake and protest sleeping. Once you were asleep you would sleep for a few hours and then would wake up. You would be wide awake, playing and talking. The first few nights we tried to put you back to sleep for an hour, even giving you a bottle and sometimes drugs. If we laid you down on your bed, you would bee line it for your sister to pat her or talk to her so we couldn't leave you on your bed. or so but would eventually give in and out of exhaustion we would take you for a car ride. Daddy took you the first time and I took you the next couple of times. You would chit-chat in the car but would eventually fall asleep. The last two nights there you did much better. You even slept through the night the last night!!!!

Overall it was an excellent trip. You did great and were such a delight to watch. I can't wait to take you next year when you can play more in the water, you can walk around and explore the sand more, and build sand castles.

Amelia - Bethany Beach

Amelia - you are an amazing girl. You had been asking to go to the beach for weeks and it was finally time. You helped me pack by folding all of the clothes and putting them in the suit casses. We had made a list and you helped me check to make sure everything was packed. The night before we left it was nearly impossible to get you to go to bed but you eventually did. When we got up to leave at 5:30 I had hoped we could get you into the car without waking you up too much...but no. You were wide awake and ready to go. So off we went.

You did wonderful on the way down. After being awake for about 1.5 hours you went to sleep and slept for most of the ride to the zoo. You weren't very excited to go to the zoo at first you just wanted to go to the beach, but once we got there and you saw the animals you were ok. We went in to see some monkeys and other creatures and then went into the Children's Zoo. You loved it in there. There was a mini-coral reef fish tank, butterflies, an ant display thing, ducks to feed and goats to brush. You then tried to go on a really high slide and you almost made it up to the top. I was so proud of you. You tried to hard. It was then time for lunch and then time to go. When we left we stopped in the store and you bought a canteen to take to the beach. We haven't actually taken it to the beach yet.  :)

Once we got here you were so excited we went right to the beach. Daddy dropped you and I off so that you could see go and see the beach right away even before going to the house. We ran down to the beach and you put your feet in the water. Your excitement - was so amazing to see. It was pure joy.

After the beach we went to the house and got set up. You helped put clothes away and unpack other stuff. The whole time asking when we could go to the beach. So we took you. We didn't stay long but went with everyone. Again - you were so excited. You and Isa jumped and jumped. The plan was to not get wet - but that didn't happen. You didn't have your bathing suit on so you didn't go swimming - but you got wet. We then came back to the house, ate, and it was time for bed.

The following day you asked to go back to the beach as soon as your woke up. It was so cute. I loved the amount that you loved the beach. After breakfast and a run to the store we finally went to the beach. Amy, Steve, Nata, Zoe, Isa, Gamma, Courtney, Jay, Mommy, Daddy, Aiden and you all went. Once there we had to set up but you couldn't wait. You just wanted to get into the water again. So we sent you to the water with Aunt Courtney while we set up. You jumped and screamed and smiled and giggled and jumped some more. It was so wonderful to watch. It made me smile from ear to ear. After watching your daddy struggle with the tent (it was pretty funny) I came out and got in the water with you. We held hands and jumped and ran together. The wave would come up and you would run away screaming in delight. You would then run back into the water only to do it again. Nata, Zoe, and Isa all had boogie boards and you wanted one - but we didn't have one for you. So you used Isa's Nemo board and took turns.

In the afternoon, we ate lunch and then took naps. You napped for a long time - and therefore didn't sleep at night. But you needed the nap. After nap we went out to the store and you got your own boogie board. We looked at 3 different places but ended up with one that has fish on it. You were so excited and wanted to try it out right away. We also bought a few blow up kiddie pools which you played with both on the porch and at the beach.

Once home it was dinner time and birthday time. We sang Happy Birthday to Lysander, Aiden, Daddy, and me. It was nice to have birthdays with everyone. You loved the cake, especially the frosting. I think you ate your own frosting and Aiden's frosting. It was then snuggle time and bed time. Bed...it didn't go so well. Your brother had gone to bed before you and was sound asleep. When you went in to bed you didn't really go to sleep and flopped around waking up your brother.  Eventually you did go to sleep though.

Aiden - Bethany Beach Day 1

Aiden - I was concerned that on the way down to Bethany Beach you wouldn't do well. I was afraid that you would cry the whole way or just not want to be in the car. But you surprised me and did wonderful. You slept for most of the way but when you were awake you chit-chatted and played with your toys. You were a delight.

On the way down we stopped at Philadelphia Zoo and you just strolled around. You were content to just ride around in the stroller and look at the animals. You favorite parts was the little tropical fish tank and the display with the rats. They were just your height. We put you down on the floor and you stood next to the tanks and watched the animals go back and forth. You smiled and giggles and it was a delight to watch.

Once we were in the car to head out again you were very patient with your sister. Every 5 minutes she would ask if we were at the beach yet - and of course we weren't. But...once we got to Bethany Beach we went to look at the beach and then came to the house. The house isn't the safest for you because there are lots of steps. We have a book shelf infront of the stairs to try and stop you from going down them...but you aren't happy about it.

We took you to the beach on Saturday. It wasn't the first time you had been as you went with us last year...but...it was the first time you were allowed on the sand and allowed to put your feet in the water. You were very skeptical at first - I am not sure you even liked it. You eventually warmed up though and crawled around a little. You were just so cute!!!

After being at the beach we came back here and you napped, ate, and then we got the pool out. You, Sander, Amelia, and Isa splashed and splashed in the pool. We had two little pools - just little kiddie blow up pools but they fit on the back porch and couldn't have been more perfect. You played for a long time.

It was then time for dinner, relaxing and bed. Which went ok..until...bed. You fell asleep in my arms and then I put you down. Your Daddy was in and out and then it was time for your sister to go to bed. Between your Daddy and your sister you woke up. And were up forever!!! We gave you an extra bottle and still wouldn't go to slee. So finally at aout 12:00pm your Daddy took you for a ride in the car. And...you finally fell asleep. When you got back your Daddy put you down and you slept for about an hour then woke up again...and then went back to sleep again. It was a long night. But I love you anyway!!!
