Today is your first day of summer soccer. You are going through a program called SoccerShots. It is real soccer. You will have lessons on dribbling and properly kicking the ball. In preparation, you are taking a nap. You are not happy about the nap but are sleeping anyway. I am so excited for you.
You were very excited when we got there. You ran right over and grabbed a ball and started to kick it around. Once Coach Pat got started you sat on your ball and listened to him give directions. The first thing you did was dribble the ball. He gave you instruction on how to do it and you did great. You also played a game called builders and destroyers in which you used the soccer ball to knock over the cones. You were good at that also. When it was time to kick the ball into the goal...you missed and so you picked up the ball and put it in the goal. It was cute.
The heat was the only thing that caused you to struggle. I think you had 10 sips of your water before we were even 10 minutes into practice. This also caused you to get a little weepy and you cried a little. You told me you didn't want to play anymore. Plus..there was a playground right next door that you wanted to play on. Each time Coach Pat started a new activity you were right back out there. And...I bribed you with ice cream.
You and the other kids were then split up into two teams, yellow and red. You were on the yellow team. You wore your jersey with pride - you came running over to me to tell me that you were on the yellow team. It was then time to play, it was yellow girls vs red girls. You scored a goal right at the start. As you played more and more you got a little frustrated. You wanted to kick the ball and sometimes other kids had it. This made you upset but after coming over and talking to me you went right out there and kicked it again.
When we got home, it was time for ice cream and dinner. You ate the ice cream while Mommy and Daddy talked to Noni and then wanted to go outside and play. We got out our soccer ball and practiced some. We mostly worked on only using our feet, not our hands, to stop and get the ball. We will have to continue to work on that. :)
